Should we be worried? Sadly yes and on two counts. First bird flu in cattle means it now has hundreds of millions more carriers in which to mutate and pick up what it needs to infect us. Just today came the news of the first human death due to the H5N2 strain of bird flu. It happened in Mexico which to me is ominous.
Mexico is where the outbreak of H1N1 jumped from pigs into humans back in 2009. Why Mexico? Well the 2009 began in Mexico in a small town whose main employer was an industrial pig farm. Industrial farming, is where nearly all outbreak of lethal Bird flu happen. It has happened one species of industrially farmed animal after another.
It erupted first in industrial chicken farms in China/HongKong back in 1997 which then spread and devastated Asia in the early 2000’s. Then it was in pigs starting in an industrial farm in Mexico. And now it’s cows. Bird flu has been in cows for decades. But this is the first time a strain lethal to humans has been incubated. Industrial farms are and always have been the most potent incubators of new strains. And the supply chains that link them almost ensure its spread.
Of course the official narrative, which was parroted immediately by the oh so compliant and covid trained ‘scientific journalists’ is that it was wild birds that were to blame. The narrative is that wild birds are where lethal new strains evolve and those same birds then spread it.
However, neither part of the official narrative fits very well with the actual evidence. But, as with the covid narrative there is both power and money pushing it and making sure nothing else is heard. I spoke to a very well informed source - someone who has worked for the US government for decades tracking bird flu - who felt this latest jump might well be less to do with wild birds and more to do with the fact that industrial cows are often feed with infected chicken-feed. As we noted in our first bird flu pod cast ( which is a good primer if you want to get the basics and a bit of the historical background) the industry is well aware that animal feed (sold for consumption by both pigs and cows) generally contains the scrapings from chicken sheds which will contain chicken carcasses as well as shit, piss, blood and bedding material like straw). The industry is also aware that it has been tested and proven that bird flu can and does survive for weeks even after the heat treatment which is supposed to ‘sterilise’ the feed. It would seems that the agro-industry chose not to learn anything from BSE.
And lastly the official narrative for bird flu is ramped up the covid narrative continues to unravel. Daszak gets thrown under the bus and no one cries.
