I'm saying that AI is, as you put it "what we make of it." But who is this 'we'? It seems to me that we don't all have the same influence on how AI is used. The people who own powerful AIs and deploy them do so for their own purposes rather than for all of us. And this asymmetry in power, it seems to me, will influence how AI is used and for whose benefit. I doubt the benefits will be equally apportioned nor equitable - not even in a narrow utilitarian sense. My sense, as I have argued, is that our present leadership and perhaps some portion of those being led, has lost faith in democracy and are eyeing other forms of governance. I worry about that.
